The State of Humanoid Robots, Q3 2026
The short version: of the 7 most commercially relevant humanoids we track, 2 are genuinely commercial, 3 are in limited industrial deployment, and only 2 have public prices. The sector's story in 2026 is no longer "can they walk" — it's production rates, paying customers and public listings.
The commercial reality check
Strip away the demo reels and the humanoid sector sorts into clear tiers. Unitree's G1 is the volume anomaly: a $13,500 humanoid you can order online, shipped in the thousands, whose maker listed on Shanghai's STAR Market in August 2026 with a +460% debut. Agility's Digit is the industrial proof point — paying logistics customers across multiple facilities and a SPAC on the table. Behind them, Boston Dynamics' electric Atlas entered production with its 2026 fleet fully committed to Hyundai's manufacturing operations, and Figure crossed its 1,000th unit built at a claimed rate of one robot per hour.
Then there's the gap between fame and status: Tesla Optimus — the robot with the biggest mindshare — remains in R&D with production timelines slipping, and 1X's NEO is taking $20,000 pre-orders (or $499/month) for homes without verified customer deliveries. Both may be enormous; neither is commercial today. Our index scores them accordingly.

What to watch next
- Price discovery. Only 2 of 7 leaders publish prices. Every new public price point (Unitree down-market, 1X's subscription model) compresses the sector's margins expectations.
- Production rates over demos. Figure's robot-per-hour claim and Atlas's committed fleet shift the competition to manufacturing throughput — the metric that decides who matters in 2027.
- Capital events. With one IPO done and a SPAC pending, humanoid makers now have public comparables. Expect valuations to reprice on delivery numbers, not videos.
